Gills kick off against Boro

Gillingham will start their pre-season friendly campaign tonight against Stevenage Borough at the KRBS Priestfield Stadium, with kick 0ff being at 7.30 pm.

Manager Mark Stimson is a former Stevenage manager himself, having joined the Gills from Broadhall Way in November 07.  And the former Boro man is expecting a good game tonight, saying: “I expect Stevenage will be fit and wanting to come and put on a good show, there’ll be a couple of players who will play tonight that will be wanting to prove that I should have taken them to Priestfield as well. ”

The Gills manager has also revealed that his squad are in good condition after a successful training camp in La Manga, Spain. “La Manga was a very successful trip and the players’ attitude was absolutely first class. I went there with expectations of what I wanted from the players and they ticked every box.”

The Gills players might’ve done well so far in pre-season training, and despite being in action tonight, they haven’t quite yet earned a break from Stimson’s pre-season fitness regime. “After the match tonight, rather than head for the showers the players will go straight in to the gym for another session. They have a rest day on Wednesday then we’ve got Faversham on Thursday, training on Friday and away to Grays on Saturday.”
