Massive Game At The Bottom

Gillingham entertain Swindon Town tomorrow in a massive game that if lost, could spell the end of the Gills’ League One existence. And even if the Gills do win tomorrow, they will face an uphill battle if they want to survive in League One, as after the home game against rivals Swindon, comes a daunting trip to the 40,000 capacity Elland Road with a game against promotion hopefuls Leeds United.

And Gills boss Mark Stimson has told his players to keep their nerve ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Swindon, saying “The best teams keep their nerve. You should have butterflies before every game and some sort of nervous tweak, but this is about keeping your nerve”.”We’ve got to try and keep doing what we’ve been doing over the last few weeks. If we can do that, then it should be enough to get three points and set it up nicely for the final week of the season”.

Swindon Town will be going all out for win also, ensuring that the Gills will not have an easy ride tomorrow. Swindon followed their 6-0 demolition of Port Vale on the weekend with a 1-0 win over Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night, and Swindon manager Maurice Malpas is happy to see this winning streak continue. He said: “With two games to go, we have to try and keep that winning mentality going. Prior to Tuesday night we had been too easy to beat away from home but we won the battle and the game”. It was Swindon’s first away win in eight and only their fourth all season.

The Gills will be hoping that they can save their season and try to avoid the drop by winning tomorrow in a massive game for them. Last time these two met Swindon won the game 5-0. Gillingham will certainly be hoping that scoreline changes this time round, changing in their favour to set up an even bigger game at Elland Road.
