Inter v Man United – Preview

With Inter recently extending their lead at the top of Serie A to nine points, tonight the Champions League will provide a welcome break from the day-in day-out stresses of the league season. The focus surrounding the match is not only focused on the two teams, but also the two managers; Jose Mourinho faces Sir Alex Ferguson for the first time since leaving Chelsea. Tonight is the Round of 16 first leg; FC Internazionale v Manchester United.

David Santon expected to earn a starting place

Team News

Jose Mourinho has seemingly decided on his team selection, with the exception of the centre-back position. With Marco Materazzi and Walter Samuel sidelined due to injury, the boss will have to change things around slightly. Ever-present Javier Zanetti will once again be at the heart of the midfield, and teenager Davide Santon is expected to start. Mario Balotellu has also been renamed in the squad for the match. So, I expect Mourinho to line up as:

                                    Julio Cesar

Maicon                Chivu                Cordoba                Santon

                 Zanetti         Cambiasso        Muntari

                             Ibrahimovic      Adriano

Ferguson is also expected to be forced into fielding a miss-match side. If tradition meens anything any more, Inter will attempt to slow down the match, and attempt to shut the gate on United. But, as we should know by now, Inter Milan are not your traditional Italian outfit. This should make for an entertaining match, although there should not be an abundance of goals, as the most important thing at this stage for both teams is not to concede.

My verdict: Mourinho has always had a good record against his counterpart, and I expect his team to nick a goal and walk away 1-0 winners.
