Newcastle Q&A

1. Newcastle are unbeaten in the Championship so far this season, are you happy with the start the club has made?

I’m absolutely delighted. I don’t think anyone in their right mind would have had us getting three wins and a draw from the first four games when the fixtures came out, especially not with the player carnage we’ve suffered in July and August. The win v Huddersfield was also a plus but came at a massive cost with Shola and Jonas getting injured in the game.

2. Do you think all the relegated teams, Newcastle, Middlesbrough and West Brom will get promoted this season?

No. I think it’ll be two from three, with the usual dark horse coming through the pack a la Burnley last season. With our squad size I think we might be the one to fade.

3. Would you like to see Chris Hughton take the Newcastle managers job on a permanent basis?

Definitely not. Chris has done a decent job in extremely difficulty circumstances. However we did a similar thing with Glenn Roeder and it all ended in tears. Definitely not a repeat option please.

4. Who do you think is the better keeper out of Steve Harper and Tim Krul?

Krul. Harper is very stiff legged and lacks the ability to readjust himself like Krul does. He’s a real talent and we’ll be lucky to hang onto him.

5. How pleased are you with the form of Shola Ameobi?

Pleased doesn’t do it justice – he’s been a total revelation. A lot of us knew he was a good player but only at a certain level and he seems to have found it in the Championship.

6. With the club likely to be sold this season or next season, will you be glad to see the back of Mike Ashley?

The man is a footballing cancer and we can’t be cured whilst he is still part of the club. He’s run us into the ground, destroyed a lot of people’s connections to the club, savaged attendances, sold the crown jewels and made us far more of a laughing stock than ever before. Definitely the prime argument in why the grass isn’t always greener after Freddie Shepherd.

7. Who would you say is the most important player in the Newcastle side?

Hands down it’s Steven Taylor. Our rock in the middle of defence, we’re all hoping he lasts with us until January at least. Sadly, knowing Ashley’s business practices, that’s not likely to happen.

8. Also who is the upcoming talent in the Magpies side?

The real up and coming star is a lad called Haris Vukic, he’s mustard. However the likes of Nile Ranger, Tamas Kadar and Shane Ferguson could also have big futures with us.

9. There are rumours that Peter Lovenkrands could be on his way back to St James Park, would you be pleased to have the winger back at Newcastle?

Yes, both in terms of bodies in the squad and talent. He was a great player for us in the run in last season and we should have tied him down a long time ago.

10. Lastly the all important match prediction?

2-1 Newcastle, just.
