Ferguson has job for life

Manchester United directors have contacted Sir Alex Ferguson, assuring him that his job as Manchester United boss is for life, and asked him to forget about retirement even if Manchester United are crowned Champions of Europe. If Ferguson remains after this season, it is out of belief that the Red Devils can triumph, in Europe and domestically, again in the near future. The best way that the Man Utd servant can retire is after winning the Champions League or Premier League or both or doing another historic Treble.

Man Utd CEO David Gill also stated that the Glazers are willing to back Ferguson to strengthen the Man utd squad for next season, possibly starting by funding the £20 million transfer of Micah Richards to Man Utd. Another possibility is signing Sevilla duo Fabiano and Alves for £30 million, or else making a move for Bayern Munich’s Philipp Lahm. These are all options that will have to be evaluated in the coming weeks, before Manchester United make a formal bid.

Gill was full of praise for the Man Utd boss, that has been at the club for more than 21 years.

“We never discuss it [retirement]. It came up a few years ago, when he decided to retire, but thankfully he reversed that decision. He is on a 12-month rolling contract and we are very happy with that. But retirement never comes up in our conversations.”

“He has been here for over 21 years now. He has built many teams in that time and we have had that stability throughout the club as a whole. Ten titles is phenomenal and hopefully there are more to be won.” - David Gill, Man Utd Chief-Executive Officer
