United Vs Besiktas Match Preview

 After Qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League, United aim to secure top spot of group B when they take on bottom of the table Besiktas. In Istanbul, two months ago, a Paul Scholes header gave united their first win of the campaign.


Bottom of the group with a solitary point from four matches, Besiktas need to win both their final games to stand a chance of qualifying for the Europa League ahead of CSKA Moscow. However, the Black Eagles will go into the game with confidence after a 3-0 win over Fenerbahce making the Turkish side within four points of the Turkish league summit. Likewise, United will also go into the game a degree of confidence after their 3-0 win against Everton at the weekend. Although United have already Qualified, Ferguson’s men will aim come top of group B with this win.

Team News

Besiktas are an injury stricken side with five key players all out. Not only is Czech defender Tomas Sivok is suspended, Filip Holosko (broken fibula) Ridvan Simsek (groin), Nihat Kahveci (hamstring), Hakan Arikan (wrist) and Ismail Koybasi (ankle) are likely to miss out. As with Besiktas, United also have various injury concerns. Ferguson’s main problem are at the back with Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, John O’Shea, Jonny Evans and Fabio all either out or very doubtful pprompting Ferguson to start the same back four as he did on Saturday. After Saturday’s match against Everton, even though he was unlikely to play Edwin Van Der is a large doubt after sitting out of training after picking up a slight knee injury- giving Sir Alex Ferguson the hard decision of whether to field either Ben Foster or Tomasz Kuszczak. Dimitar Berbatov and Ji-Sung Park are both likely to start after recovering from knee injuries. Ferguson has also declared that he will field some of his youngsters with Darron Gibson, Gabriel Obertan and Rafael all likely to start.
