Capello And His Fringe Players

15 October 2009 by gavh

Qualifying is over for England and after last nights match, some of the fringe players got their taste of action. Wayne Bridge, Peter Crouch, Ben Foster and Gabriel Agbonlahor are some of the players who played last night. However there are four more friendly matches lined up before England fly off to South Africa. Capello said last night that he has a good idea of who he is taking on that plane. He said he has around sixteen names on his list already, who look more than likely to be on the plane in 2010 . However I am going to concentrate on the player’s who are not their yet but are well in with a shot of South Africa.

Chris Kirkland – Chris Kirkland is a possibility of one of three keepers which Capello will probably pick. Kirkland seems to be a forgotten man in the England set-up; however he is a very good keeper. It looks like Robert Green and David James is defiantly on the plane, but the question is who will join them, will it be, Paul Robinson, Ben Foster, Joe Hart or Chris Kirkland. Most likely it will not be Chris Kirkland, but don’t rule out the Wigan keeper just yet.

Micah Richards – Micah Richards for me should be on the plane as back-up for Glen Johnson at right-back. So far though it doesn’t seem that way, Richards has also been forgotten about like Kirkland. Richards will offer England plenty of options as he can play Right-Back or Centre Back. I personally think that Micah Richards should start for the England full team. He is way a better player than an England Under 21 hopeful.

Jack Wilshere – This youngster has put many thoughts in Capello’s head, as he is another player who could have a place in England’s world cup team in 2010. Sven Goran Eriksson picked Theo Walcott a couple of years ago, so there is know means why Wilshere will get picked either. He is a very good prospect however the World Cup might be too early for the Arsenal winger.

Jack Rodwell - This youngster has been on phenomenal form this year for Everton and the England U21’s. He is a brilliant centre midfielder who will surely be an England regular one day. He has clocked up with a couple of goals for the England u21’s aswell. For Everton he has been partnering former England player Phil Neville in the Centre of Midfield. Rodwell could well be in the equation, however it could be a little too early for him, just like Jack Wilshere.

Darren Bent - He is the on form England striker in the Premier League, Darren Bent has been scoring goals. However Capello hasn’t picked Bent in some time, which is a bit stupid of the England manager. Darren Bent has hit form at the right time, and hopefully he will be in with a shot of World Cup 2010. Even though it seems that Capello has already picked his four or five strikers for the World Cup, Bent could well be one of them. With Crouch, Defoe, Rooney, Heskey and Cole standing over him though, Darren Bent has even more work to do.

The list goes on… would write these players on the maybe list instead of forgetting about them?
