Messi – Small and Mighty!

29 June 2009 by mightyhammer

When I chose Lionel Messi, I thought that the task would be easy and that I could finish it off quickly but then I realised that you can’t  write an article, just about how amazing someone is. This gave me quite a problem as there is not much wrong with “Leo.” I came up with two ideas; he is small and he wears a mid-range football boot, the F30i. Neither of these helped me though. Firstly, I am very small so why would I write about him being small and his height clearly does not affect him? Secondly, talking about his football boots would be incredibly boring for both reader and writer. So, I decided that I would write about how amazing Messi is and let you try and think of something bad to say about him.

The Beginning

After being diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency at the age of 11, it was never going to be easy for Messi to make it as an accomplished footballer. Argentinian primera team River Plate showed interest in the young prodigy but could not afford the $900 a week treatment that Messi needed. It was then that Messi had his big chance; Carlos Rexach, the sporting director of Barcelona heard about Messi’s talent and his relatives in Catalonia were able to arrange a trial for the youngster Messi. Barcelona signed him after seeing him play and agreed to pay the medical bills if he moved to Spain. As you would expect, the family moved to Spain and Messi started his career in football. A tough start for the youngster but it was only going to get better for him.

Lionel Messi has tranformed himself into a worldwide superstar

The Best?

This season, Lionel Messi has proved that he is the best football player that lives today. In my opinion he surpasses Cristiano Ronaldo by quite a long way. His passion for the game alone is incredible compared to that of Cristiano Ronaldo. He plays football for the love of the game and he truly plays for Barcelona. Cristiano Ronaldo on the other hand plays to get to more money which is why he is moving to Real Madrid. If I was playing football for Manchester United I would certainly not complain and sulk to the extent that Ronaldo did. Messi has almost squashed any possibility of a transfer by truthfully claiming his allegiance to Spanish Giants Barcelona.

This Season

This season Lionel Messi has been inspirational for Barcelona. It has been this season that he has impressed most. With 38 goals to his name throughout the season he has really shown how good he is and how far he can improve. At the age of only 22 he has become one of the best players on the planet if not the best. Barcelona have had a season to remember and without Leo they would not have got anywhere near the Champions League final or the La Liga title. Although he broke his metatarsal early on in the season he still managed to prove why he is so good and why he is so saught after by many clubs around the world. He is a truly magnificent footballer and his passion for the game and his team is second to none. If there ever was a modern day footballing role model then Messi is my vote for that person.

Messi scored the second goal in Barca's 2-0 win over Man UTD in the Champions League Final
